About Christopher

I have been a private piano teacher for about ten years. I learnt classical piano as a child and returned to music as an adult, branching out into pop and jazz styles and training my ear. I increased my practice levels and began picking up professional playing work. I have taken a number of pupils right through their classical grades and some have gone on to train at conservatoire. I have had two pupils chosen as piano scholar at their school. Another has accompanied her school choir. Jazz and pop pupils have written their own versions of songs for solo performance and have accompanied singers and instrumentalists. They have also joined bands. I play regularly at weddings and other services at a couple of local churches, and play jazz and pop music at parties and receptions. I have a lot of experience accompanying singers and instrumental players in their exams and submissions to music colleges. I have recently been added to the list of approved music instructors at the German School in Ham.

About the lesson

I do everything I can to keep pupils enthusiastic and motivated. You have complete freedom to choose music that you want to play whether that is pop, classical, blues or jazz. You need to have music that is the right level for you, so I will help you choose the right pieces and arrange them if necessary to suit your ability. There are a few ways that you can get into bad habits - technical, fingering, rhythmic and expressive. I will always make sure that you know if this happens so that you develop in the right way. Lessons are fun and relaxed. I explain musical structure as we go and also train your aural skills. I hope to help people become useful musicians in any genre.

He supported her in auditions for a place at Chethams Music Schools, which she got with a government Music & Dance Scholarship. He worked to her strengths and needs (she has a processing disability) and tempers kindness and encouragement with firmness. I cannot praise him highly enough.
