About Mike
I am a chartered engineer and I have been a part-time tutor for nearly 10 years. I achieved both my undergraduate Master's degree and PhD in mechanical engineering at Imperial College London. I would like to offer tuition for Physics from year 5 up to GCSE and IGCSE. Although I want every student I help to achieve the highest results possible, my main aim is to develop a firm understanding and interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects so that they may enjoy studying them and have a greater capability to take them on at higher levels if they so choose. I myself have been passionate about maths, science and engineering ever since I learnt about climate change back in year 3. Since then I have always wanted to do as much as I can to make a difference and try to help with the problems we face involving energy and climate change. I mostly tutor online, and since transitioning to online tutoring as a result of COVID I have successfully provided over 100 hours of tutoring to a number of clients through online platforms. I primarily use Discord to speak with my tutee and to screenshare an exam paper or textbook, and we have used shareable online whiteboards such as Miro to write on. As long as I can hear my student clearly then I have found online tutoring to be just as effective as in person. Outside of engineering and tutoring I have many hobbies including cycling, archery, playing guitar and video gaming. I am very flexible with times for lessons, including doing lessons at weekends, so please do send a message asking if I am available. My own academic results are given below: Postgraduate - Imperial College London, PhD Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate - Imperial College London, MEng Mechanical Engineering - 2:1 grade overall School - Sevenoaks School (Academic Scholarship) International Baccalaureate Maths HL - 6, Physics HL - 7, Chemistry HL - 7, History SL - 6, Russian SL - 7, Text and Performance SL - 6 IGCSEs and GCSEs Advanced Mathematics - A (highest grade possible), Mathematics - A*, Physics - A*, Biology - A*, Chemistry - A*, English Language - A, English Literature - A, Latin - A*, Russian - A*, French - A*, History - A*

I currently mostly tutor online, so generally I deliver sessions by speaking with my tutee through Discord while screen sharing a textbook or exam paper, and then writing on a shared online whiteboard on a separate device. For in-person lessons it is obviously much more simple. It depends what stage the student is at as to whether we will mostly look at a textbook to learn fundamentals and theory, or if we'll focus more on exam questions. I always do hour-long sessions, I found any longer is quite hard both on me and the student.
Recommendations

Helped me with maths for 2 years. Was good at breaking things down to the core concepts and building from there. Found him to be very patient and knowledgeable. Would recommend!
Michael is an excellent student and a friendly and sociable individual. I am confident he would be an excellent tutor.
Strongly Maths and Science based, very hardworking. A gentle, modest man.
I taught Mike IB Higher Level Physics at Sevenoaks School. He is a bright, thoughtful and diligent student. He would be a capable and reliable tutor of Physics at GCSE or IGCSE level and of significant help to anyone studying IB HL or SL or A-level.
