About Rick

I have extensive experience teaching and tutoring a wide variety of physics topics using both algebra- and calculus-based methods. I have helped dozens of high school, college, and graduate students improve their grades or pass courses that they had previously failed. I hold a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Boston University, a Master of Science in Management from MIT, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Dartmouth College.

About the lesson

Are you struggling in AP Physics, trying to keep up with the flurry of equations and variables? Are you having difficulty figuring out which equation to use in which situation? Are you able to understand the examples in class, but then have no idea how to get started on homework problems, quizzes, or exams?

Physics isn't about memorization. It's about developing a clear understanding of the concepts and deep physical intuition, and then solving problems from first principles using a structured problem solving methodology.

I specialize in helping students go beyond memorizing and transition into truly understanding AP Physics 1 and 2. We skip the short-term tricks and focus on developing true physical intuition and systematic problem-solving skills. Whether you are untangling forces and kinematics in Physics 1, or exploring fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and introductory modern physics in Physics 2, I am here to demystify the material.

My Method

Concept First: We don't touch equations until you fully understand why a physical system acts the way it does. The math then becomes a natural language to describe it, not an obstacle to overcome.

Word Problem Decoding: I teach you how to break down complex word problems into clear, logical diagrams and variables, removing the anxiety of "where do I start?"

Long-Term Academic Support: I partner with students throughout the term to build lasting confidence, ensuring you are fully prepared for assignments and exams without needing to resort to stressful, last-minute cram sessions.

I offer a free, no obligation 45- to 60-minute introductory diagnostic consultation. During this session, I will assess your academic needs, demonstrate my first-principles problem-solving method, review the course roadmap, and provide an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach.
