About Sawyer
I am an experienced educator and tutor with a strong academic background and a genuine commitment to helping students succeed. I graduated magna cum laude in my field and have taught in a wide range of settings, including college tutoring centers, private tutoring, science education programs, and academic support roles such as TA and lab assistant. These experiences have helped me develop a patient, adaptable, and professional teaching style.
As a father of four boys, I take education seriously both at home and in the classroom. I understand how important it is for students to feel supported, respected, and capable as they learn. I work hard to create a tutoring environment that is encouraging, organized, and focused on real understanding rather than memorization alone.
I am also pursuing a career in medicine, which reflects both my dedication to lifelong learning and my commitment to serving others. I bring that same seriousness, care, and professionalism to every lesson.

I take a patient, adaptable, and concept-focused approach to tutoring. My goal is to help students not only solve problems, but understand the reasoning behind them so they can build confidence and work more independently over time. I tailor lessons to each student’s needs, whether that means strengthening foundations, preparing for exams, working through homework, or improving study habits and problem-solving strategies.
A typical lesson starts by identifying the student’s goals and areas of difficulty. From there, I review key concepts, work through examples together, and gradually guide the student toward solving problems on their own. I focus on clarity, step-by-step reasoning, and making difficult material feel manageable.
What sets me apart is the range of my teaching experience. I have worked as an educator and tutor in a planetarium, observatory, science camps, a college athletics department, a university math help center, private tutoring, and as a TA, lab assistant, and research assistant. I also have experience in early education and working within IEPs. I graduated magna cum laude in my field, and I bring both strong subject knowledge and a flexible teaching style to each session.
My lessons are especially well suited for middle school, high school, and college students, including undergraduate students who need support in math, physics, astronomy, study skills, or science coursework. I work well with students who want enrichment, students who are trying to catch up after falling behind, and students who may feel intimidated by quantitative subjects and need a supportive, encouraging learning environment.
