About Leonidas

I am a Greek-American who is a full-time English teacher at a university in Saudi Arabia. I graduated with a BA in Philosophy from the University of Southampton, UK in 2014. I also studied International Relations at the University of Indianapolis in Athens, Greece. I know several languages, including Latin, Greek, and Turkish (and, hopefully very soon, Arabic as well).

I have been a professional proofreader for university students, academics, and scientists since 2012. Besides that, I started teaching English full-time in 2016 after receiving my CELTA (a certificate from Cambridge University which certifies that I can teach English to adult learners) and have experience teaching English to young learners (almost two years' of experience teaching at a primary school in Turkey), for academic purposes (specifically, preparing students to study their majors in English at university -- i.e. my current job in Saudi), and preparing students to take the IELTS exam (two years of experience teaching at a boutique course in Turkey).

With regards to teaching history and philosophy, it honestly depends on the needs of the student. I can teach about world history and European history, though I am most adept at teaching American History (I received a 5 out of 5 on the AP American History Exam back in the day). And, as far as philosophy is concerned, I love teaching the history of philosophy, logic, epistemology, and the ethics of belief.

About the lesson

With regards to ENGLISH LEARNING, if you are wishing to learn from me directly: I base each of my lessons around a central theme or dialogue which is meant, not only to trigger the students' interest, but also tie in well with the main objectives of the lesson, be it vocabulary/grammar attainment/review and/or the improvement of the skills of listening/speaking/reading/writing. I also believe that practise makes better. Therefore, I will always try to provide homework for each student to complete after every lesson. This way, I, as a teacher, will also learn whether you require any further tutorship with regards that particular topic or not.

If, on the other hand, you are wanting me to simply facilitate the learning that you are being provided by some other tutor, I can certainly help you with any topics that you are not being able to understand by developing extra lessons and materials for you.

In terms of PHILOSOPHY/HISTORY, this will of course depend on what is intended from the lesson. If you are wishing to learn the topic directly from me, the lessons would be conducted from a given book (or assortment of books) that I would try to supply you in the form of a pdf. Certain readings would be assigned from those texts and the lectures to be given would be based upon those texts, as well as some other source materials. Assignments will also be given.

If, on the other hand, you would like for me to assist you with a course that you are already studying, I could help you with your homework, the organisation of your assignments, and provide you with further explanations of what you are learning so that you can better understand the topic you are studying.
