About Sophie
I'm currently an undergraduate at Bristol University, wanting to ultimately get into teaching. I love both Philosophy and English (literature and language) and had a real passion for most essay-based subjects while in compulsory education. This is a passion I would love to bring out in other young people, as I believe in the power of language not only for future workplaces, but as part of being a human.
I thrive one on one, and love any opportunity to help young people feel safe, supported and heard, particularly when it comes to subjects that may be intimidating. I understand that essay-writing and literature are not for everyone, so, if anything, I hope to instil a confidence in students that readies them for any other challenges life may throw at them.
As stated, my approach wholly caters to the needs and interests of the individual. I ensure a professional relationship is formed wherein students may feel secure in making mistakes and growing. This, I learned, was vital when working as a teaching assistant at a local primary school, as I encountered many children with a vast array of confidence and skill levels. The kind of flexible teaching style needed to support all kinds of learners is one I have adopted and developed since.

Online tutoring, with an individual-focused approach.
Lessons can vary dependant on student needs, ranging from content comprehension (reading primary texts together with socratic questioning/activities to ensure subject matter retention) to more complex tasks such as help with structuring essays, proofreading and joint analysis of secondary critical sources. With a background in fine art and music, lessons may have a creative streak, particularly for more visual learners or neurodivergent individuals.
Experience volunteering as a TA for primary school ages, and supporting with reading for secondary ages.
Lessons primarily for ages 11-18, specialised in ages 16-18 (A Level support).
