About Sarah
I have been teaching in some capacity or another for the past decade of my life, often in the world of museums and cultural heritage experiences. This has allowed me to develop a way of working with students that is fun, engaging, and critically grounded. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and still enjoy taking classes and workshops to allow me to build my knowledge and sharpen my creative skills. Outside of teaching, I am a writer of fiction and creative nonfiction, playwright, actor, researcher, and theatre designer.

I like to teach through a combination of lecture and in-depth discussion. Typically, I will introduce a concept with a lecture and/or presentation that gives students something to think about. Then, I will moderate and engage in a conversation where students can ask questions, think freely, and gain the tools they need to come to a conclusion on their own. My goal as a teacher is to empower students to learn without feeling any shame about the difficulties they face with the subject matter. I myself struggled a lot with mathematics as a kid with undiagnosed ADHD during my K-12 years, and still feel the pain of the public humiliation I experienced from doing my best and still struggling. This is actually why I love teaching in a smaller setting—it allows me to get to really know my students and find ways to discuss the subject matter in a way that truly resonates with them, instead of the more one-size-fits-all approach that is typically found in a larger classroom. As a teacher, I am most equipped to work with students roughly eighth grade and up, as these students are more likely to be doing more complicated literary analysis. While I do specialize in gothic and horror literature, I can teach the breadth of English language literature, as well as essay writing and creative writing.

Sarah is an amazing educator. I attended one of her lectures on the history of New England and was blown away by her ability to bring primary sources to life and make her content accessible to a wide range of students. She has a gift for explaining and breaking down complex concepts very clearly, as well as for connecting with her students. I also know Sarah as an excellent editor and writing teacher: she edited and supported me with some of my writing, and I would absolutely recommend her services to anyone.
Sarah is has the ability to engage students with interesting topics and an accessible communication style.
