About Jim
I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Earth Sciences from University of Glasgow, and an MSc (with distinction) degree in Hydrogeology from University of Birmingham. I am currently in the final stages of writing up my PhD thesis which has focused on how Fe-bearing minerals help clean up pollutants in the subsurface.
If you are currently an undergradute/masters level student studying Earth Science/Geology/Environmental Science, I can help with the following subjects:
- "catch-up" fundamental chemistry and maths skills
- geochemistry (aquatic chemistry/inorganic geochemistry)
- geology (petrology, mineralogy)

I have taught undergraduate and masters students during my PhD. I believe that in order for students to fully realise their potential, an understanding of how they best respond to learning is crucial. That being said, I will often explain something in multiple ways, perhaps using different analogies, in order to understand how a student responds to my teaching.
