About Jing
I am a PhD researcher at Michigan State University with an interdisciplinary background in engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, and computational research. My academic and research experience spans statistical modeling, machine learning, computer vision, Python programming, transportation engineering, and structural engineering.
Alongside my research, I have experience teaching and supporting students in technical and engineering subjects. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps and helping students understand not only how to solve a problem, but why a particular method works.
My research experience has involved working with real-world datasets, statistical analysis, machine learning, computer vision, simulation, and engineering applications. This allows me to bring practical examples into lessons rather than relying only on textbook explanations.
I am comfortable working with students from different academic backgrounds, from beginners learning Python or statistics to university and graduate students working on advanced engineering, data science, or research-related topics.
My teaching style is patient, structured, and adaptable. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, identifying gaps in their understanding, and developing the confidence to solve technical problems independently.

My lessons are tailored to each student's background, course requirements, and learning goals. Rather than simply giving answers, I focus on helping students understand the underlying concepts, develop a clear problem-solving process, and become able to solve similar problems independently.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the concepts or problems that are causing difficulty. I then break them down step by step, explain the relevant theory with intuitive examples, and work through representative problems together with the student. For programming and data-related subjects, we can also work directly with Python, datasets, code, and practical examples.
As a PhD researcher with an interdisciplinary background in engineering, data science, and AI, I can help students connect mathematical concepts, programming, and real-world applications. I am particularly comfortable explaining technical subjects from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
