Techniques and Teaching Methodology
I focus on a conceptual, problem-solving approach that empowers students to build a deep understanding of the subject matter. Each session begins with an overview of core concepts to ensure a strong foundation, followed by practical examples illustrating these principles. I use active learning techniques—such as questioning, real-world applications, and discussions—to keep students engaged and to encourage critical thinking. By breaking down complex problems into manageable steps, I help students develop problem-solving strategies they can apply independently.

Adaptability is key to my teaching. I tailor my approach to each student’s learning style and pace, whether that means more visual aids, hands-on examples, or conceptual explanations. For more advanced students, I incorporate industry applications, particularly in engineering and physics, to show how theoretical knowledge translates into real-world practice.

Typical Length of a Lesson
A typical lesson is 60 minutes long, which provides ample time for thorough exploration of topics without overwhelming the student. In cases where in-depth discussion or project work is needed, I offer 90-minute sessions that allow for detailed problem-solving and additional practice.

Qualifications/Experience as a Tutor
I hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Auckland, with extensive academic and industry experience. I have worked as a Teaching Technician, Professional Teaching Fellow, and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the university, assisting with courses in engineering design, dynamics, vibrations, and technology management. This experience has honed my skills in explaining complex ideas clearly, guiding students through challenging content, and creating supportive learning environments. I also supervise student projects and have experience guiding undergraduates and postgraduates in research and design tasks.

Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for high school, undergraduate, and postgraduate students studying mathematics, physics, or mechanical engineering. I also work with adult learners and professionals who may need to refine their understanding of specific topics or prepare for exams. Regardless of age or level, I aim to foster confidence and a passion for learning in each student, helping them not only succeed in their studies but also appreciate the applications and significance of what they’re learning.
