About April
I understand how vulnerable it can feel when reading, writing, or language does not come easily. Having lived abroad, I know what it feels like to be surrounded by print, forms, directions, and conversations that are difficult to access. That experience deepened my empathy for students who feel embarrassed, confused, or left behind when literacy tasks are hard.
As a tutor, I bring both advanced literacy training and real compassion. I have a PhD in literacy and years of classroom experience, but I also know that students need more than expertise. They need patience, clarity, respect, and someone who can help them see that struggle is not the same thing as failure.
My goal is to help students build skill and confidence so reading and writing feel less intimidating and more understandable.

My tutoring approach is warm, structured, and diagnostic. I look closely at how each student is processing language, then build targeted support in reading, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing. I help students understand the patterns behind words and texts so they can become more confident, capable readers and writers.
