About Charlotte

Hi! I'm a recent PhD graduate in Political Science from the University of Michigan, where I also taught undergraduate students. I've spent much of my academic career reading, writing, researching, and helping students engage with complex ideas, and I really enjoy making those skills more accessible to others.

My academic background has given me extensive experience with writing, editing, critical analysis, and communicating ideas clearly. I've also worked with students of different abilities and know how important it is to adapt explanations and feedback to each person's learning style.

I'm originally from Canada and have also lived and worked in the US, UK, and France. I bring a broad range of interests and experiences to my teaching, and I enjoy working with students of all ages.

Above all, I'm patient, approachable, and encouraging. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities.

My approach to English tutoring is flexible, supportive, and tailored to each student's needs. Whether you're looking to improve your reading comprehension, strengthen your grammar, write more compelling essays, or develop your critical thinking skills, I aim to make English feel more approachable and manageable.

I work with students from middle school through university, adapting my teaching methods to their age, abilities, and goals. For younger students, lessons might focus on reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and building confidence in written expression. For high school and university students, I can provide more advanced support with essay structure, argumentation, critical analysis, and academic writing.

Lessons typically begin by identifying what a student is finding challenging, followed by guided exercises, discussion, and practical feedback. I encourage students to ask questions, think independently, and develop skills they can apply beyond our sessions.

With a PhD in Political Science and experience teaching undergraduate students at the University of Michigan, I bring a strong background in academic writing, close reading, and communicating complex ideas clearly. My goal is to help students become more confident, capable, and independent readers and writers.
