About Dr Hannah

I have a PhD from the University of Cambridge with a Masters (also from Cambridge) and a BSc from the University of Liverpool. I am a consultant in the public sector, despite training as a chemist, but I have learnt Spanish over the last 12 years both in school and through private tuition. Not many people recognise the point at which science and languages meet, but I am able to satisfy that niche. Being trained as scientist, I am a logical thinker. I can break things down into their component parts very easily which is salient in the learning of a language. Fortunately, Spanish is a very logical language. There are rules (and of course, exceptions to the rules) that enable us to visualise and rely on obvious patterns and trends. I noticed teaching in schools to be understandably lower quality so I was fortunate enough to receive private tuition as my parents recognised my natural flare for language. I am now able to fully appreciate how outside tuition can really supplement school-work. I want to enable other students to accelerate in their learning just as I was able to do so that their chances of success can be maximised in the future.

My lessons have a strong focus on grammar and conjugation as this is the basis of any sentence. Your vocab will develop naturally over time but a lot of the hard work is found in learning how to manipulate verbs. The best way to master this area of the language is constant repetition both verbally and in written form - by the end of my tailored courses you will be uttering the conjugations in your sleep! Naturally your vocab will improve as we work through several comprehensions and written work. We will include a vocab test at the beginning of each lesson to ensure your constant development in this area, and an additional focus will be just on the alphabet alone with significant dedication with respect to pronunciation.

Aged >13 (GCSE preparation) = £30 per hour
Aged >16 (A-level preparation) = £45 per hour
Adult aged >18 (no formal qualification to be obtained) = £35 per hour
