My approach to teach programming is based on your preferences and previous knowledge rather than a fixed methodology that work for all. It is focused on practical exercises (challenges) rather than theory. We increase the level of the challenges until we are able to build full applications.
I believe short lessons are more effective where we focus on a single task each time. Then you practice, and when you master it, we move forward.
I've been mentoring from children, teenagers, undergraduates to MSc and PhD students for 20 years in all sorts of projects, specially in artificial intelligence.
