About AK
I began tutoring students in biology and chemistry while earning my B.S. degree, majoring in Biomedical Science with a minor in Chemistry.
Since that time I've tutored many students in many subjects, including all levels of high school biology, chemistry, physics, and math, as well as elementary Spanish.
In college-level subjects, I have experience tutoring students in the following courses:

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biomedical Science from Western Michigan University. I offer a friendly, student-minded approach to tutoring biology and chemistry. I teach reasoning strategies that can be applied to coursework and foster a deeper understanding of the material by breaking down difficult concepts and encouraging students to think critically. '
I focus on thoroughly explaining the material, but just as importantly on how to best learn that material. "Learning how to learn" is one of the most important academic skills for a student to possess and yet is hardly ever taught in the classroom. Lectures concentrate almost entirely on "WHAT to learn", spending very little to no time on "HOW to learn it". "Learning how to learn" has been essential to my academic success. Teaching this strategy to others and seeing the amazing improvements they have made has been the best part of my work as a tutor.
In my lessons, I teach effective learning tools alongside the subject materials with the goal of increasing student understanding, critical-thinking skills, and academic confidence.
