About José André

Bonjour, and welcome!

I'm a French tutor based in the Mississauga and Toronto area, and helping people learn this beautiful language is something I genuinely love doing.

I came to teaching because I noticed how many learners feel lost or discouraged with French, often because lessons move too fast or skip the "why" behind the rules. My goal is the opposite: to make French feel clear, logical, and reachable, one step at a time. I'm patient, organized, and I adapt to how each person learns best.

Over time, I've built a complete set of my own teaching materials so that every lesson is structured and consistent, never improvised. Whether your goal is school, work, immigration, or simply the joy of speaking French, I'd be glad to help you get there.

À bientôt!

I teach French to learners of every age and level, from young students just starting out to adults preparing for the TCF or TEF Canada. Every lesson is built around a clear, proven structure so you always know what you are working on and why. We review, build vocabulary around real situations, focus on one grammar point at a time explained simply in English and French, then put it into practice through speaking, listening, and writing.

What makes my lessons different is that I teach from my own full curriculum, not a generic textbook. Each session is designed to move you forward step by step, at a pace that fits you. Whether you are a parent looking for steady progress for your child, a student needing help with school French, or an adult with an exam date on the calendar, the lessons adapt to your goal.

Lessons are online, so you can learn from anywhere, and I teach in the evenings to fit around school and work.

  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

My passion for teaching French started five years ago with my very first student. Watching someone go from struggling with the basics to actually building confidence in the language showed me how much I enjoyed the process of teaching itself, not just knowing French, but helping someone else own it. That experience is what motivated me to keep sharing my skills with other students, and it's the same motivation that drives me today.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

French is a language people in Canada often need rather than simply want, whether for a job, an immigration exam, or their child's school program. I like that tension. It means every student who comes to me has a real reason to be there, and watching that turn into genuine confidence rather than memorized rules is what keeps me teaching. I'm especially drawn to exam preparation, TCF and TEF Canada, because the stakes are real and personal. A better score can change someone's immigration timeline, and that matters to me.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a Superprof?

I structure every session the same reliable way: review, vocabulary, grammar, then speaking or writing practice. Students always know what's coming, which takes the anxiety out of learning a new language. I teach bilingually, explaining concepts in English first so nothing gets lost, then building the French around that foundation. I work with complete beginners and with adults under real pressure to hit a specific CLB level for immigration, and I adjust my pace and materials for each student rather than running a one size fits all curriculum.
  • Do you have a role model, a teacher who inspired you?

I do. A previous mentor of mine showed me what it really means to teach with passion, not just to deliver information but to genuinely care whether a student understood and felt supported. That's the model I try to bring into every session I run today.
  • What are your keys to success?

Consistency and honesty with my students. I tell people upfront what level of commitment a real result requires, whether that's conversational fluency or a specific TCF score, so nobody is surprised a few sessions in. I also believe in giving students a real trial rather than just a sales pitch, which is why I offer a free 45 minute session before anyone commits. If a student and I aren't a good fit, I'd rather we both find that out for free in session one.
