About Emily
I have done paid and unpaid online lessons to second and first language classmates in Spain throughout higher education, namely helping them with essay writing techniques, expression and memorization skills.
My biggest achievement was getting a U/E grade classmate to a C in the essay section of her Media Studies A2 level Coursework. I also helped an AS level history U grade student achieve a pass by helping her with her studying skills.
My other personal achievements are placing 3rd out of 84 people in the European Youth Parliament’s National 2018 session. EYP is an established debating society which mimics the European Commission in which skills in leadership, research, public speaking and verbal expression are exercised.
I also attended The British School of Malaga, in which I learned to speak Spanish, partook in a Public Speaking course and was Head Girl for two years.
Now, I am a member of The Stag, The University of Surrey’s Magazine, and also write my own blog called ‘Writing Out Loud’.

My approach to essay writing is easy and formulaic. Students have no shortage of ideas, but it’s learning to express them on paper that poses a challenge. That’s why my lessons focus on structure and clarity, alongside research and memorization skills. I am an Undergraduate Literature student myself, so I am not out of touch with the skills that younger students need, and the stresses that they have.
I am flexible, accessible and I provide a personal, friendly environment for learning. School doesn’t need to be any harder than it already is. Contact me for skills in literature, essay writing, and study techniques. Anything word related!
My lessons are based in person or online on Google Docs and Skype. I adapt my lessons to my students, but often work with them by looking at their written clarity in previous and current essays. I will ask them to write paragraphs for me, structure essays and discuss their revision and research techniques. I also adapt myself to the exam board requirements and grade that they are working towards. I am flexible to each students’ needs and written weaknesses and am happy to adapt myself to their specific requirements.
