About John
Guiding students to success in mathematics has been a passion of mine for over two decades. I see myself as a "physician" who heals persons with mathematical "illnesses". I receive great joy when a student comes to me frustrated and intimidated by math and leaves our session with a clear understanding of the subject matter. I feel wonderful seeing the smile and sense of relief that my students experience after first struggling and, afterward, succeeding. This is my purpose and motivation for every session. We can do this TOGETHER!!!
I possess two mathematics degrees with a minor in computer science. I have worked in education as a full time middle school and high school teacher. I have also served as a homebound teacher. I worked with elementary aged students and student with special needs, such as Asperger's autism. I am experienced and willing to work with all students.
I tutor practically any math subject at the high school level and below: calculus, statistics, precalculus, algebra, trigonometry and geometry. I am also able to incorporate technology into the sessions and lessons. Therefore, upon request, we can using graphic calculators, online graphing technology, EXCEL, Google Sheets or Python programming (Matplotlib) to enrich lessons.

I first explain the concept using definitions, pictures and examples. Then I demonstrate the skill/concept. Then I patiently guide the student through several practice problems. I then diagnose what skills/concepts are lacking to figure out WHY the student has not previously mastered that subject. We will then, together, delve deeply into any areas of weakness.
