About Colin

Hello! I'm Colin, I've been fascinated with Philosophy & Ethics since discovering the subject at A-level. In my exams I achieved A's - including 100% and 97% on my AS papers.

I have a First-class BA(Hons) from the University of the West of England, and a master's degree with distinction from the University of Edinburgh.

I am friendly and approachable. I can either bring a plan to our lesson or we can get straight into the specific questions and help that you need. I aim to make the lessons as helpful for you as possible!

When not teaching I enjoy going on walks, reading, and looking after my one-year-old son!

About the lesson

Welcome to Philosophy & Ethics! My lessons are designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the key philosophical concepts and ethical theories that are crucial for your A-level or university exams. Developing critical thinking skills and encouraging you to express your ideas.

Philosophy & Ethics contain complex ideas that can be difficult to grasp. I believe, that taught in the right way, Philosophy & Ethics can be easy and accessible to everyone.

What you can expect:
- Tailored Content: Lessons are customised to suit your learning style and academic goals. We'll cover the entire A-level syllabus or take a student-led approach homing in on the specific areas of your choice.

- Interactive Learning: Engaging in discussions and debates on philosophical questions and ethical dilemmas to stimulate critical thinking and help you articulate your viewpoints effectively.

- Comprehensive Coverage: Detailed exploration of key philosophers and ethical theories, including Plato, Aristotle, Utilitarianism, Kantian Ethics, Natural Law, and more.

- Supportive Environment: A patient and encouraging atmosphere where questions are always welcome, and learning is a collaborative process.

What a lesson might look like:
1. Introduction to Key Concepts: Each lesson begins with an overview of the topic, providing the necessary background and context.

2. In-Depth Analysis: We delve into the philosophical and ethical theories, examining their implications, strengths, and weaknesses.

3. Case Studies and Applications: Practical examples and case studies to illustrate how philosophical and ethical theories apply to real-world situations.

4. Discussion and Debate: Open discussions to explore different perspectives and enhance your critical thinking abilities.

5. Review and Feedback: Recap to consolidate your understanding and provide feedback on your progress.
