About William
Hi, I’m Will — a Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Leeds with a strong background in mathematics and problem-solving.
I tutor maths because I know how frustrating it can feel when concepts are rushed or explained in a way that doesn’t quite click. My approach is to slow things down, break ideas into clear steps, and make sure you understand the why, not just how to get the answer.
My degree involves a lot of applied maths, including calculus, algebra, vectors, differential equations, and mechanics, so I’m very comfortable helping students with GCSE, A-Level, and early university-level maths. I’ve also spent a lot of time helping classmates and younger students build confidence in maths, especially those who feel “bad at it” — which usually just means they haven’t had it explained the right way yet.
Lessons are friendly, structured, and focused on your goals. Whether you want help with homework, exam prep, or strengthening foundations, I adapt my teaching style to how you learn best and make sure each session actually moves you forward.
If you’re looking for a patient tutor who explains things clearly and helps you feel more confident with maths, I’d be happy to help.

My approach is simple: make maths understandable and build your confidence. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, use real-world examples to show why things matter, and create a comfortable environment where asking questions is encouraged.
My Teaching Method:
I start each session by understanding what you're struggling with, then work through problems together step-by-step. I don't just show you HOW to solve something - I explain WHY it works so you truly understand it. We'll practise similar problems until you feel confident tackling them on your own, and I'll give you techniques to remember methods long-term.
Lesson Structure:
Sessions are typically 60 minutes, though I'm flexible if you prefer 45 or 90-minute lessons. We'll spend time reviewing homework or recent classwork, work through new material together, and finish with practice problems to reinforce what we've learnt. I can also help with exam preparation and revision strategies.
My Background:
I'm currently studying Mechanical Engineering at university, and I've always had a strong aptitude for maths. While I'm building my tutoring experience, I remember clearly what it's like to be a student struggling with difficult concepts - which helps me explain things in ways that actually make sense.
Who These Lessons Are For:
GCSE students (Years 9-11) needing support with exam preparation or ongoing classwork
A-Level students looking to strengthen their understanding of core topics
Key Stage 3 students (Years 7-9) who want to build a solid foundation
Anyone who finds maths intimidating and wants a patient, judgement-free tutor
Whether you're aiming to pass, improve your grade, or genuinely understand the subject, I'm here to help you reach your goals.

William was my tutor for 6 months before my GCSEs and really helped me understand difficult concepts that I didn’t grasp before. He is very patient and address any misconceptions so that I understood everything very well
Will tutored me for my A-Level Maths last year and helped me increase my grade from a C to an A in 4 months. Could not recommend more!
