About Briana

Hi! My name’s Briana and I’d first like to thank you for considering me as your tutor. I began tutoring in 2018 as a way to give back to the community and share my passion for mathematics and learning. Since then, I have tutored over 25 students across Australia in all levels of Mathematics including ATAR and university level units. My longest student started in Year 8 and has just finished up their final year of ATAR Methods with me. Currently, I am a postgraduate student at the University of Western Australia completing a Masters in Software Engineering. In 2022 I completed a Bachelor and Honours in Mathematics and Statistics, which I obtained with high distinction and first-class honours. Before this, I graduated from Iona Presentation College in 2018 with an ATAR of 98.85.

About the lesson

I am based in Wembley, WA, and provide both in-person (Perth CBD - 15km radius) and online tutoring in all levels of mathematics (Years 7-10, ATAR, university etc.). I am flexible on the length of the session; most of my students benefit from sessions between 60 minutes and 90 minutes in length.

I believe every student is different so I tailor each lesson to the specific needs of the student, whether it be examination preparation, topic review, or learning new content ahead of school material. I have a strong focus on ensuring my students grasp the foundational concepts of mathematics as this is often the biggest barrier to understanding future and more advanced topics in the subject. I also focus on developing my student’s problem-solving skills as this is crucial for them to be able to apply their existing knowledge to the more advanced (often worded) questions. I provide all my students with practice worksheets and tests/examinations.

With my experience and years of reviewing student’s marks, I understand exactly what examiners are looking for in tests/examinations and work with each student to ensure their approach and working out truly reflects their understanding of the material. Finally, I completely understand that many students may not enjoy mathematics and struggle with stress during examinations. I have worked with numerous students to build strategies to help them deal with the time pressure of exams.
