About Leni

I am a passionate guitar tutor with 11 years of teaching experience and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Guitar Studies. My focus lies in world music, exploring styles such as Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Indian Classical Fusion, and African fingerstyle. I aim to introduce students to the rich diversity of global rhythms, melodies, and techniques. Lessons go beyond chords and scales; I emphasise understanding cultural contexts and the stories behind each style. Students learn to experiment with alternate tunings, polyrhythms, and fingerstyle techniques, enhancing both creativity and versatility. I tailor each session to individual goals, whether for casual playing, performance, or personal exploration. Cross-cultural learning is at the heart of my approach. I encourage students to discover connections between musical traditions and incorporate them into their own playing. I provide repertoire-based exercises, improvisation practice, and listening activities to deepen musical understanding. My goal is to cultivate both technical skill and expressive freedom. Every lesson is interactive and engaging, making complex concepts accessible for all levels. Students gain confidence while developing a broader appreciation for music’s global heritage. I warmly invite learners to explore the world’s sounds through guitar, unlocking new horizons in creativity and musical expression.

About the lesson

My teaching approach combines technical skill, musical understanding, and personal expression. I guide students from basics to advanced guitar techniques, covering classical, jazz, electric, bass, and acoustic styles. Lessons focus on building strong finger strength, rhythm, and timing. I also explore music history, helping students understand the roots of each genre and how cultural influences shape modern guitar playing. We discuss the evolution of blues, rock, and folk traditions, connecting historical context to the techniques we practise. I emphasise learning by ear and improvisation, encouraging students to develop their unique voice. I provide guidance to those pursuing performance or worship-style guitar, helping them excel in both creativity and confidence. Repertoire-based instruction is key. Students work on pieces that suit their style and goals, while also learning improvisation and theory alongside practical playing. I integrate listening exercises, jam tracks, and real-world performance scenarios. My method nurtures passion, discipline, and joy in music. Every student progresses at their own pace while gaining a deep understanding of guitar and its cultural significance.
