About Kieran

My name is Kieran and I am a first year medical student at the University of Sheffield. I am fresh out of A-levels which means I have a deep understanding of how challenging years 10-13 can be. During my A-levels I was given a benchmark of a B in Chemistry and through a lot of perseverance and asking for support from teachers and tutors, I managed to achieve an A-star. I have chosen to tutor in Chemistry as I enjoyed learning the a-level content and have a wide and deep understanding of the subjects As someone who didn’t breeze through either GCSEs and A-levels, I have learnt a lot, including exam-board specific tricks and making effective revision plans, I believe I will be able to share these tips to help you achieve your goals (whatever they may be).

About the lesson

During our session, I aim to have a quick discussion to work out our session’s objectives. Whether you need help with your homework, getting your head around a challenging concept or question, doing a whole topic revision session or doing through past paper questions, I hope to help you learn in an active and enjoyable style.
Techniques I use include blurting(getting all the topic out of your head), past paper question walk throughs, flash cards. I hope to encourage students to work in this way as it is backed by evidence as being more effective.
AQA Chemistry at GCSE and A- level is often seen as one of the most challenging subjects, and I found both challenging at first. In GCSE Chemistry I went from a 5 to 9 and at A-level a B to A star, so although it may feel impossible to improve your grade it is definitely possible. To do this I would encourage students to do questions walkthrough (especially the tricky maths ones) and establishing a strong understanding of the core physical topics(A-level only and practical techniques.
I can also offer support with UCAS applications and medical school interview(MMI) practice.
Our sessions will be 1 hour long over google meet, zoom or teams depending on the students preference.
