About Yorke
I am not a strict or formal tutor at all - that's what schools are for - but I am still professional. I find students do better when lessons are more conversational, friendly and informal. I am not a teacher, so I am not going to act like one. I am simply a fellow English student, sharing the tips and tricks I've learnt over the years. I also try my best to never be boring, because the last thing anyone needs is a boring tutor teaching you how to analyse Shakespeare. I prefer my students with the will to live.
I have tutored people both formally and informally and have always managed to improve their grades, even if it was just giving friends advice before an exam.
Some fun (debatable) facts about me:
-I love art (visual art, drama, poetry, film, all of it!)
-I got over 90% for English in matric
-I took Advanced Programme English in school
-I won a provincial spelling bee when I was in grade 6 (and then lost the national one because I panicked and forgot how to spell 'indigenous')
-I study English Literature in university (even though I'm actually a Film major)
-I passed my first year with a first class pass (75% +) and I ended the year on the Dean's Merit List.
I'm not as insufferable as I sound, I promise.

I love English and I think that comes across in my lessons. I am passionate about the language and about people! Everybody is unique and learns differently and this is an important consideration in my lessons - I strive to modify each lesson to the individual student (to the best of my ability)!
I make things easy-to-understand and relatable, while keeping lessons light and fun. Oh, and expect lessons FILLED with dry jokes.
I tutor English to students of all levels - whether you're just trying to pass, aiming for that distinction or wanting to turn your 80% into a 90%, I want to help you achieve your goals and do the best you possibly can!
I love languages in general and I am fluent in English and Afrikaans (and speak a bit of French).
