About Arran
I have tutored privately and taught large classes in both the UK and China. My experience includes:
***Deputy Director of Humanities, FG Academy, Beijing***
Tutored a diverse range of students, managed an international team of tutors and produced a comprehensive IGCSE history course at one of China's premier tutorial academies. Amongst other successes, I had a student pass the 13+ Common Entrance exam and attend their first-choice school, a student achieve an A in GCSE history and a student pass smoothly from GCSE to A-Level history.
***Private Tutor, Clevedon***
-Tutored a student who was not in any form of education GCSE mathematics. In four months the student's grade increased from a 1 to a 4 and they passed their exam on their first attempt.
***Admissions Support***
Supported a number of students in writing personal statements and preparing for interviews at Oxbridge and elsewhere.

My tutorials combine a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a keen focus on results. I don't lecture my students. Instead, by modelling my sessions after Oxbridge tutorials I aim to have the student speaking more than I do. My intention is that students will come away from my tutorials having a solid understanding of the topic in question and, crucially, the skills to work out problems for themselves, whether in their exams or their future studies. After all, as much as I enjoy tutoring my ultimate goal is to reach the point where the student doesn't need me at all!
