About Wesley
I am an undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the University of Oxford. I studied English Literature (A), History (A), Mathematics (A*) and Politics (A*) at A-Level. Including non-commercial experience, I have been tutoring for over a year now, with the last 6 months of that period being on a commercial basis.
I began tutoring at school, out of a desire to share my love for Politics and English to other students while also deepening my own understanding of these subjects. Hearing about the successes of my students inspired me to take on tutoring as a larger commitment at university.
In my commercial tutoring career, I have also had the opportunity to explore Mathematics, and I have been able to greatly enhance the confidence of the students I tutored in that subject. Getting to share my love for the subjects I teach, as well as growing the student's interest in, and aptitude for, those subjects is why I continue to teach.

The key to my lessons is discussion. As I have learned through my own tutorials for my degree, the best way to clear up misconceptions and further understanding is to get students thinking on the spot. I have found that this means students come away with a much greater understanding of what they study and have a greater ability to apply this knowledge in an exam scenario.
Lessons will usually begin with a short recap of content covered in the last one, followed by an introduction of the main problems to be tackled over the rest of the lesson. The main body of the lesson consists in getting the student to think around the problems raised while I ask them questions or provide further information in order to develop their understanding. Lessons will normaly close with a discussion of what has been learned and any points of particular interest for the next recap.
I will occasionally expect some work to be done in preparation for my lessons, but normally the bulk of learning happens during the lesson and this will not be necessary. Lessons last about 1 hour, although I can also offer special two-hour lessons from time to time.
