About Daniel

Hello!! My name is Daniel and I am currently an MPhys Physics Undergraduate at the University of Oxford. I aim to help you exceed your predicted grades and achieve your university offers! I have experience tutoring both GCSE and A Level students, who went on to achieve top A/A* grades. My aim as a tutor is to provide interesting and engaging lessons that will push you outside of your comfort zone, to develop mathematical intuition and excel in the subject. As a student myself, I understand the importance of finding an explanation that 'clicks', and I will help you develop an intuitive understanding of the material that will allow you to tackle whatever problem you're faced with.

In terms of my qualifications, I achieved 5 A*s in A Level Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and an EPQ, along with 12 Grade 9s at GCSE. Therefore, I am familiar with the examination system and how to effectively target revision time to achieve the top grades. I can help you make the most of timed conditions and take advantage of specific question styles.

I also represented the United Kingdom to achieve Silver in the 56th International Chemistry Olympiad (2nd in the UK and 58th in the world). I have also achieved Top Gold in BPhO Round 1 (top 100 students in the UK), Silver in BPhO Round 2, 3x Gold in the UKChO, Gold in the Senior Maths Challenge, Gold in the Y12 Physics Challenge and Gold in the C3L6 Chemistry Challenge. This means that I can take you beyond the course to develop your passion for the subject, should you be interested. I look forward to meeting you and I hope to hear from you soon!

About the lesson

I aim for all my lessons to be engaging and tailored to your individual needs, so in our first session we will create a unique plan to ensure you gain a solid understanding of all the material. I cater to all abilities, from helping struggling students get to grips with the basics, to driving more advanced pupils to develop a greater fluency in maths. Above all, I aim for you to feel comfortable with making mistakes, as this is the most effective way to learn! I place an emphasis on developing an intuitive understanding of core concepts, as well as providing guidance in exam technique and question styles. With grasping core concepts being so essential, I believe explanations should be diverse in their approach and tailored to your needs. Typically my lessons last 1 hour (but this is completely up to you), during which we will work through problems together on a shared whiteboard. To consolidate the learning, I also set problem sheets outside of the lesson to reinforce key concepts.

Very self motivated and organised, with quick replies and a clearly defined plan. He identifies his own weaknesses well and chooses questions to tackle these accordingly. The lessons could be more time efficient if he builds up a stronger foundation of the basics before attempting the more difficult questions we work through in the lessons.
