About Leo

I am an undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford, having taken Politics, History, Maths, and Economics at A Level. I am lucky to have had lots of work experience in politics, economics and international development too; I have worked at the British Embassy in Rome and the World Food Programme's London Office.
I am used to working with young people and after helping friends and younger siblings I chose begin tutoring online from September 2018. In my last year at school I tutored three GCSE students for Maths and Economics, History, and German so I have the experience and enthusiasm for this kind of role!

My approach to teaching is to help the student understand the key, underlying issues to a problem, or in a subject. This allows them the confidence to tackle and solve future problems.
As a tutor, I will explain theories and approaches in a step-by-step way, and illustrated with examples in the real world so you can properly understand these ideas. Learning the theory is all well and good, but in the real world theory is twisted and forgotten all the time.
When it comes to individual students, I will take the time to prepare a unique approach depending on your level. I split up the general process as follows:
1) General principles; most people know the general principles of a topic or problem. This is good, they are crucial to understanding, and far better than just learning a mark scheme, which tends to be a risky strategy.
2) How it would happen in theory; how would we expect this model to work in the real world? What aspects of a policy is most important?
3) Why something happened in practice; often, things do not go as we expect. Did the government prioritise different goals to what we expected? Was there another line of thought which was more likely, and how could we identified this in the future?
4) Thinking of our own examples; if you can apply new principles to your own examples, then you have mastered the topic.
