About Billy

I am entering my final year studying Biochemistry at Oxford - born and grew up in Oxford and always thoroughly enjoyed my subject as well as teaching it! I’ve tutored Biology, Chemistry and Maths for the last two years online and in person and really enjoy the experience and helping my students improve. Public exams are tough - and having sat GCSEs, AS levels, A2 levels, and being examined every 8 weeks at university ive developed a variety of methods when it comes to revision, managing time and staying on top of work. Every student has to realise their own technique and I pride myself on being able to help facilitate this. Biochemistry positions me perfectly to teach Chemistry and Biology to A level standard, especially where they overlap I can help my students use their Chemistry to improve their Biology and vice versa if they study both. And if they only study one – then I can provide comprehensive, accessible but detailed teaching to help get them their top grade! I can also provide help with how to plan revision, how to structure time best and how to handle the months and weeks building up to an exam period. Regarding Mathematics I am competent to teach up until A level – but the maths I study in my degree specialises quite a lot so feel best disposed to teach to GCSE level however if an A level student I tutor does the triple of Maths, Chemistry and Biology I am happy to help with any maths related questions – specialising in calculus and statistics.

About the lesson

The structure of my sessions obviously depends very much on what the student wishes to achieve, if it’s topic specific then I will prepare individual lessons centred around first and foremost the specification for the subject and its specific exam board – with a brief overview, followed by an in-depth look at the topic and ending with a brief quiz and then some questions set for consolidation. If the student wishes me to take them through a whole subject and public examination I find the best way is to do a warm up session, where I can talk to the student, work out where the strengths and weaknesses lie, talk them through their specification and what will be expected of them and then start a well planned string of sessions. In this instance its often extremely productive when I set a small amount of work for the student to go through BEFORE the session on that subject – that way the student can come to the session very much knowing what it is they don’t understand and we can target the weaker areas more effectively. The lessons then follow the same format as above with specialised sessions for exam technique the closer we get to any tests/exams throughout the year. I am always happy to mark and set exams/tests whenever desired by the student and regular exam style questions forms a key part of my teaching.

Am based between Oxford and London - Oxford tuition I will perform in Trinity College which is located on Broad Street (no travel cost). If tutoring is required within London depending on how much there may be a 1 time travel fee of around £15 for me to get to and from the location.
