About Jeff
A bit about me, in reverse chronological order. I'm actually part owner of a cancer immunology biotech, and we have our first drug in clinical development. That sounds a long way from a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, but O-Chem IS the chemistry of life. Before that, I was a consultant for 20 years, where I helped people who were at the intersection of science, medicine and business understand how different medicines could help (or hurt!) patients. That expertise came from a long stint working as a synthetic organic chemist. And after all, what underlies ALL biology, and ALL medicine, is that living organisms are microcosms of organic chemistry reactions. Before that, I received my Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry, specializing in alkaloids. Alkaloids are organic compounds that have a basic nitrogen. Along the way I've taught organic chemistry to many people, both undergraduate and at the post-graduate level. I do it now because 1) I really enjoy talking about O-Chem, and 2) I'm at the stage of life where "giving back" and "paying it forward" are top priorities.

I've tutored Organic Chemistry for MANY years. I help students from diverse backgrounds, from those who are majoring in chemistry, to pre-meds to fashion designers. I can convey what YOU need to understand in order to succeed in your program. We will go at your pace, and I will ensure that you learn why atoms and molecules behave the way that they do, why bonds form and break, how electrons move and charges change, HOMO/LUMO, oxidation and reduction, acid and bases, nucleophiles and electrophiles, spectroscopy, synthesis (my favorite!) and a hundred other topics. AND... I can help you to be focused in this moment - not worrying about a test that you might have not done well on, or a test coming up. HOW? By giving you the tools, the knowledge and the confidence that you're really mastering organic chemistry. So... let's get started!
