About María

¡Hola! I’m María. I consider myself an enthusiastic and motivated teacher, willing to help you learn everything you want to know about the Spanish language and culture. I believe in a practice-based learning. I think every language is alive and we shouldn't learn it as a dead theory. I have spent almost 9 years living in the UK, working as a teacher at state and independent schools and running adult education courses. Now, I work full-time helping students like you, offering a more personalised education. I am a qualified teacher with a Spanish-teaching title recognised by the University of Barcelona and International House World Organization. I also have a Master's in teaching art and languages (Spanish PGCE equivalent) and a Bachelor's in Fine Arts. University: - University of Cadiz - Master's in teaching (Spanish PGCE) Art & Language Education - University of Sevilla - Bachelor (Hons) of Arts in Fine Arts - Clic International House - FELE (Spanish as a Foreign Language teaching training)

About the lesson

I believe that teaching Spanish is much more than teaching a bunch of grammar rules, it's teaching our art, gastronomy, our understanding of life… in short, our culture. I use a communicative approach to the language, so grammar is always in context and at the service of real communication skills. I focus on the objectives and needs of each student. To teach in the best possible way I use a wide range of activities that I prepare to fit the student.

I've been helping Helen's son prepare for his GCSE Spanish. He is punctual and shows a lot of interest in the lessons. He actively participates and applies everything he learns. It’s a pleasure to teach him, and I’m confident he will continue to make great progress.
