About Jago
I am a recent university graduate who is interested in becoming a teacher. I completed A Levels in Maths, French and German in 2022, achieving an A* in all. Maths was with Edexcel and languages with AQA, although I have familiarity with both boards including the new languages specifications for 2026 examination. I later studied linguistics at Cambridge, which allowed me to combine my love of maths and languages, receiving an overall First grade and coming top of my cohort in my second year.

I have passions for understanding and explaining logical structure across maths and languages, and I work on teaching from a theoretical perspective. For language tutoring, I place a high importance on pronunciation, which is a growing focus of different exam boards. I am experienced in phonetics and phonological understanding of foreign languages from an English native speaker perspective, and work on practical suggestions for challenging sounds. I also focus on explicit grammar instruction, using evidence-based strategies from language acquisition research. I have previously volunteered as a GCSE tutor for maths and English to English as an Additional Language students at a disadvantaged school, showing concise explanations and ability to deal with a range of communicative abilities. I also have significant informal tutoring experience with peers across a range of abilities and levels, as I have always enjoyed working with and helping others to understand underlying concepts.
