About Millie

Hi my name is Millie! I am an Accounting and Finance graduate from the University of Exeter. I have been an online maths tutor for over 2 years and worked consistently with more than 50 students spanning across KS3, GCSE and AS Level. I also have a valid enhanced DBS check. I love working with students to help them build their confidence and self-belief when it comes to their maths abilities. I will help to fill in any gaps in their understanding particularly after so much inconsistency at school during the pandemic. About the lesson

My lessons are tailored specifically to what each individual student needs and wants but normally the structure will be roughly based on the following. I start by spending some time looking over the content of a particular topic i.e. explaining the relevant methods and concepts needed for the topic. Then the majority of the session I provide a lot of different practice questions based on the topic. We may start off with me walking my student through the first few, then my student can attempt the next few in a collaborative manner by receiving some prompts from me, and then the student will have the confidence to attempt the rest of the questions themselves while talking me through their thought process. For GCSE level lessons I add a couple of past paper exam questions at the end so my student can see how this topic may present itself in their exam. For KS3 level I may throw in a final question that is more challenging to see how they work through it. With my GCSE students in year 11 after assessing their current ability I map out an action plan to more specifically tackle the areas in which they need more support: for example going through certain topics in more detail, practising past paper exams together to help with exam technique, focusing on non-calculator methods, etc. I am also happy to provide additional resources/syllabus summaries/practice questions for my students to have some guidance when working independently outside of our sessions. I have taught 1,500 lessons as a maths tutor and my lessons usually last for 1 hour.
