As a cello teacher, I believe in the power and impact music has in the development of a person. It helps cultivates self-esteem, self-discipline, and creative thinking skills. With my students, I focus on both the connection music has to other aspects of everyday life and technical aspect of cello playing. I make connections so that the students will learn to recognize the deeper meanings of the music they are playing. This understanding will allow students to look inside and create art that is genuine and from the heart.

With this holistic approach as the foundation, I will help students develop technique, musicality, and rhythmical skills that will make way for a freedom of expression. Solid technique is necessary for one to make music. The more tools one has the more variety and dimensions the music has. This will be done through emphasis and practice of scales, etudes, cello method books, as well as caprices for students who are more advanced.

Technique and musicality are like a marriage. Both aspects must be strong in order for one to make music. My students will be working on a variety of repertoire and exercises at the same time to help strengthen and improve versatility and performance of various kinds of music. I will discuss why this technique is important and share the connection strong foundational technique has to great music making. The more control one has over their technique and movement, the more specific and captivating the performance can be.

I also believe that creating goals is a great way to motivate students to improve and challenge themselves. I will discuss with them what their goals are and to give them options such as entering competitions or giving a recital. The goal that they create will allow them to have a more active role in the learning experience. This will allow students to take what they learned and put it in a public context. The goal is not to create a perfect performance, but to allow the preparation process to teach them discipline, self-management, and endurance while the emotions of the music gives them a taste of the richer meaning in life.

My goal is to focus on helping students develop technique, musicality, and rhythmical skills that help create a freedom of expression. I want them to become artists who relate to the audience and communicate emotion.
