About Emma
Welcome! I'm Emma Bentley, a dedicated music educator and professional musician with over 4 years of experience in performance and teaching. My journey in music began at an early age, and I've had the privilege of studying with some wonderful teachers throughout my musical journey. These experiences have shaped my approach to teaching, allowing me to bring real-world performance experience into my lessons while maintaining a strong foundation in pedagogy.
My musical education includes a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio, where I honed my skills as both a performer and educator. While studying at CWRU, I had the privilege of studying clarinet as my primary instrument, and percussion as a secondary. Throughout my undergraduate career, I prioritized comprehensively learning all instruments, so that I may better help future students. I was lucky enough to have performed on the cello, French horn, trumpet, and saxophone, in addition to my studies.
As an active performer, I regularly appear with orchestras and chamber ensembles. These experiences inform my teaching and allow me to provide students with insights into the professional music world. I truly enjoy performing with others, and actively demonstrate to my students my enthusiasm. I believe that maintaining an active performance career is essential to being an effective educator.

My teaching philosophy centers on developing well-rounded musicians who not only refine their musical skills, but also appreciate and enjoy the art of music. In lessons, students learn the necessary skills to perform a wide variety of music, ultimately allowing them to become lifelong musicians. Each student receives individualized attention and customized instruction that addresses their specific goals and learning needs.
Students will develop the skills and knowledge needed to become confident, expressive musicians. Lessons are conducted in a safe environment where students will retain those skills more effectively, building more lifelong musicians.

I've known Emma for 5 years and have had the opportunity to see her as a clarinet and theory teacher, along with as an ensemble director. She's funny, smart, and has a way of working with students to get them deeply engaged in the material. Her teaching methods revolve around contextualizing music theory through musical examples. She is also a big supporter of Dalcroze techniques when it comes to rhythmic training. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for clarinet or music theory lessons!
Emma is an awesome clarinet teacher! She’s patient and helps with going back to the basics when needed. I feel a lot more confident as a musician because she is very positive and celebrates all of my wins. Lessons are fun, even when working on the smallest of details!
