I have been playing the guitar for several years and I deal with artistic composition in the music field. My self-taught approach allowed me to understand the potential deriving from the study of music theory without losing sight of the carefree beauty of playing an instrument like the guitar.

Clearly different purposes require different methodologies. Personally, I would first of all tend to have concrete and satisfying results (like immediately learning an easy song of your choice), and then go and focus on expressive techniques (articulated strumming, phrasing, arpeggios, etc.) and at the same time try to justify from the point of theoretical view the equilibrium underlying music.
