About KWANELE
As a teacher I can genuinely say I love teaching. I am passionate about the opportunities that it gives to children, especially young children. From birth to 5 the brain completes 90% of it’s lifetime growth. That 90% is the foundation for the rest of life. If it’s strong people and thereby communities will be strong. If it isn’t that person won’t be as strong in their lives and that will also impact the community. I truly enjoy working with young children; I know it’s not everyone’s thing. That is why diversity is important. If we all liked and were teachers - who would grow our food, build our houses, open stores, provide us clean water, make our cars, etc., etc., etc., I have felt for a long time, from the moment I was led to dip my toe in the early childhood water - that it was not just a job, not just a passion, but a calling. Am I perfect? No. But that passion and love of teaching has driven me to consistently follow the science and research in the field. I feel fortunate to have been a teacher during the years when brain science evolved to the level that it could actually see how the brain responds and determine better ways to teach. My college professor told me I was going to be a good teacher, but when I think on all I have learned since the day I walked out of college and into a classroom, I am amazed at what has been proven to be valid and what has been shown to be non or less effective and what to replace that with. We have more information now on how to be great teachers that it is tragic that so many fight against it. I don’t walk around saying I love teaching. If someone asks, such as you did, I will answer. Sometimes people say something that they don’t really mean, because they are in the field for other reasons (not sure what because it isn’t an easy job). But this is a situation like any other - it’s best to judge people by their actions rather than their words. It’s easy to say I love teaching. It’s harder to show that I love teaching - but since I love it - I don’t mind the work.
