About Alexander

I am 17 years old, in my final year at Logan Park High School while studying at Otago University under a dual enrollment. I have studied and am passionate about a wide range of subjects. Having enjoyed great tutors throughout my teenage years, I know the impact they can have, and would love to make a difference for other students.

As a student, I am interested in exploring each subject's unique perspective of the world, and forming connections between them.

As well as becoming dux of my school last year, I have received NZQA scholarships in English, Biology, Calculus, Statistics, and History, and outstanding scholarships in Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, I have taken Canterbury's MATH199 (calculus and linear algebra), and Otago's PHSI221 (Classical and Quantum Mechanics), PHSI222 (Electromagnetism), PHIL222 (Formal Logic), PHIL331 (Early Modern Philosophy: Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz), and MUSI140 (Piano Performance) with an A+ average. Currently, I am studying accounting, economics, philosophy, and piano performance.

Outside academics and tutoring, I enjoy debating, chess, piano, watching football, and spending time with my dog Happy.

I am fluent in both English and Chinese.

About the lesson

Engagement and depth are, I think, the greatest differences between learning from a tutor and a textbook. I aim to stimulate active learning in every concept and problem, and work towards achieveing an intuitive grasp of concepts and comfortable application in problem solving.

I am experienced in tutoring both serious academic students and individuals who need a little more support. Since 2021, I have been my school's scholarship biology and physics tutor. Results in these two subjects have improved more than 4 times compared to the previous three years. I have also been my younger brother's piano and academic teacher. Additionally, I am a peer mentor for my school, and help tutor chess and debating.

As well as online, I am available for tutoring in a public location, most likely the university.

I am happy to do any length. Although I am most familiar with high school content, I am open to tutoring students of all ages and levels.

Apart from the 4 subjects listed, I can tutor English, Biology, History, and SAT - having scored 1590 (99.9th percentile).
