About Emily
Hello, I'm Emily. I'm currently pursuing my Master of Arts in Teaching at NYU, specializing in high school ELA. I absolutely love teaching language arts. I understand grammar and classical literature can be daunting subjects, but it is my goal to create fun ELA classes that teach you real skills to apply in life. I started my career in education 7 years ago, running a refugee adult English course. I worked with a group of adults to learn practical English, resume writing, and citizenship exam prep. After that, I worked in South Korea teaching in bilingual academies for two years. My classes focused on writing, grammar, public speaking, and humanities. I switched to teaching part-time while working and taking classes at Cornell University for 3 years. There I continued teaching ESL classes while taking classes in Asian Art History. Most recently I have continued my education through NYU while shadowing local teachers.

I believe in creating lessons that meet the learning style of each student! Lessons aren't about hitting a certain goal, but creating educational experiences that *show* you a new skill. Typical full lesson: - Intro activity to warm up to the subject - Personalized lesson to cover a specific skill or content area - Checks for comprehension I can create lessons to cover specific ELA, History, Geography, or Politics content areas but I am also comfortable working with specific assignments you might have. I currently teach high school ELA but my background extends through all grade levels and college tutoring.
