About Hannah
I've been working with students since I myself was a high school student, teaching voice lessons at the elementary and middle school level. As I worked with those kids I realized they needed me for more than music and found myself helping with many other subjects, so by the time I got to NYU in 2014 I was excited to take a job with America Reads and Counts. As a classroom assistant in a 6th grade class, I was given the opportunity to help students during and after the school day in small groups and one-on-one as they navigated difficult lessons and learned how to manage their time and studies. By graduation in 2018 I found myself focused on helping students with mainly their study skills, time management, history, english, science, and math and discontinued teaching voice so I could focus on providing as much help as possible in core subjects as well as SAT and ACT test prep. Since then I've been tutoring middle and high school students in the above-mentioned areas by meeting them where they are at and gently providing the tools they need to succeed. I'm a very focused and prepared tutor here to make learning as painless as possible even for the most reluctant learners.

I take pride in the high amount of preparatory work I put into each tutoring session I conduct. In order to help students feel they are in capable hands I take time to analyze any of their previous work available to me, what's currently happening in their classes, what's coming up in their classes, and what resources I can bring in to help the subject come to life in a way that makes sense to them at their current level of understanding. In my own academic life I am an incredibly earnest and hard working learner, pushing myself to understand a subject from every angle so that I might communicate it the best way possible to those I instruct in the future. A typical lesson plan for one of my middle school students will include a small warm up in the subject we are focusing on that day to help get them focused. I try to include many different medias into my lessons so that the material comes to life, so a typical warm up could look like a short passage, a map, a short video, or example problem. After warming up we move into the work of the day - this could be homework help, revisions on work already done, or an activity I am bringing in to help them be successful on what they're currently learning or are about to learn in class. For high school students we do not always do a warm up and spend the majority of the session working and talking through the ideas or concepts they are struggling with using a mixture of primary texts, videos, maps, example problems, and homework assignments. Many of my high school students come to tutoring with questions and I pride myself on prioritizing their concerns in a way that helps them feel supported on their journey to understanding. I specialize in the following areas: middle school english, history, math, science; high school english, AP english language and composition, AP english literature and composition, biology, chemistry, algebra I and II, geography, AP human geography, AP world history:modern, AP US history, AP US government and politics.
