About Devon
I have dedicated my life to learning and teaching, especially math and science. In addition to my two degrees in Nuclear Engineering, I have over ten years of experience tutoring people of all ages in math and science. My teaching philosophy centers on the concept that most people can acquire any skill if allowed to learn at their own pace and given ample support from a patient, empathetic teacher. Today's educational system is based heavily on the outdated notion that only certain types of people can achieve academic success, and everyone else is out of luck and should be satisfied with just scraping by. I say that's a load of bull! Everyone deserves a fair opportunity at a quality education, and I have seen first-hand how much even a "bad" student can achieve when afforded proper guidance and human empathy. I genuinely believe everyone deserves reasonably priced educational support.

My lessons are for any student in 5th grade and over, including college students and adult learners. Our sessions will focus on mastering fundamental skills so you or your child can be confident in your ability to learn and do math and science. These skills include but are not limited to solving complex problems in terms of their simplest parts, speaking in the language of math and science, and effective individual practice. I train students to think like problem solvers, guiding them through examples and allowing them to solve problems at their preferred pace. No one likes to be rushed nor do they do their best work while rushing! I can provide study materials, practice problems, calculator training, and homework help. I do NOT give away answers for graded assignments. In addition to what I mentioned above, I can support you or your child while you practice other important skills such as independent study, effective test-taking, and planning.
