About Joey
I have worked with children and students all my life, and my empathetic approach to every student I meet is informed by over ten years of experience working with students of all ages. Understanding a young person as a human as well as a student is essential to teaching and a core belief I bring into every session. Teaching has been my passion for many years and is a crucial tool for becoming an educated adult. I would not be the same person I am today without the outstanding educators that have impacted my life. I seek to impart some of my knowledge to any student that requires assistance in their ELA or English class. English is one of the only classes in which you can hold any opinion you wish, as long as you can back up that opinion concisely and logically. My sessions help students mechanically and demonstrate the fun you can have discussing stories, reality, and life.

My tutoring lessons focus on the fundamentals of writing and reading. Students often view essays as challenging; however, students can quickly improve their skills by fully grasping the basics of writing and reading. A typical session would include short readings and reflections and longer writing pieces that will be reviewed in the same session. Looking directly at the student's work with them is the most responsive and productive way to improve their writing. I can scale my session to meet any grade level or class (i.e., regents, honors, AP, IB). My sessions may also be geared toward undergraduate students as well. I imbue a level of rigor to my sessions while also understanding students' limitations and trying to push them towards goals I believe they can achieve. My sessions are adjusted to fit my teaching style to the student’s learning style and interests to craft the most engaging material possible.
