About Megan

With ten years of teaching experience, eight years of research experience at MIT, Harvard, and Merck, and my upcoming adventure into law, I can assure you that professionalism is essential to me. I believe that respect includes properly preparing materials in advance, punctuality to lessons, and at least 24hrs notice if a class is to be changed while understanding that emergencies do happen. Such measures and norms ensure the best possible experience for each learner.
I sincerely love sharing my knowledge of the sciences. I would love to share my passion with you and get you just as excited about science as I am!

As a researcher at MIT, I found it challenging to explain what I was working on to family and friends. As a result, I learned to find topics of interest to my "students" at the time that would make for good analogies. I taught my sister neuroscience, utilizing her interest in fashion. After obtaining my Master's Degree from UCONN in Physiology and Neurobiology, I took this skill and channeled it into my teaching career. Ten years later, I am an award-winning educator that utilizes a student-centered approach to learning. I encourage questions and outside-the-box thinking while promoting and emphasizing the use of the scientific method. Emphasis is placed on tailoring lessons to the needs of each student.
I have taught all levels of science in chemistry, biology, and general science---from multi-language learners (MLL), alternative program students, college prep level students, and AP students. I feel comfortable and confident in my ability to reach each student.
I practice differentiation strategies that promote self-confidence while being sensitive to social and emotional needs. I am skilled at identifying where COVID learning has left gaps and am willing to take the time to address their needs. A successful student and teacher dynamic starts with trust, and I believe science should be fun! As a result, I use various learning techniques to address all learning modalities as best as I can.
In addition to high school students, I feel confident in college-level course instruction---particularly in neuroscience and psychology. I even enjoy giving lessons to continuing education learners who might be interested in a few lessons on a topic they are interested in.
Overall, I want to share my passion and love of science with everyone! In addition to standard lab experiences, I have participated in climate change research in Greenland. These research experiences become real-world examples I regularly use in my classes.
In August, I will begin law school. I intend to obtain my J.D. specializing in environmental law and justice while also obtaining a Master's in Public Policy.
