About Nanea

I'm Nanea, and I've been passionate about teaching for over 15 years. My journey started in high school when classmates began asking me to help them with subjects they were struggling with. What started as informal study sessions quickly became my calling. Watching students go from confused to confident is something that never gets old, and it's the reason I chose to build my entire career around education.

I earned my Bachelor's in Neuroscience and Physiology and my Master's in Biology Education from UC San Diego. My academic background gives me a deep understanding of how the brain learns, retains information, and performs under pressure, and I bring that knowledge into every lesson I teach. I've worked with hundreds of students across all ages and levels, and my practice has been built entirely on referrals and repeat families, a reflection of the results my students consistently achieve.

Outside of tutoring, I'm a naturally curious person who loves writing poetry, staying organized across every area of my life, and always finding new ways to grow. That same energy and drive carries into my teaching. I'm constantly refining my materials, creating new resources, and finding better ways to break down challenging concepts so they actually make sense.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed for students from elementary through college who want more than just homework help. Whether you're working through Pre-Algebra, tackling AP Calculus, preparing for AP Biology or Chemistry, studying for the SAT or ISEE, or strengthening your English writing skills, every session is built around your specific needs and goals.

A typical lesson starts with a quick check-in to see where you are and what's coming up. From there, I begin with a foundational overview of the topic to fill any gaps before moving forward. I use a think-aloud approach, where I walk through my reasoning out loud while solving problems so you can see the process, not just the final answer. Then it's your turn, using my teach-it-back method, you explain the concept back to me so we can pinpoint exactly where your understanding is strong and where it needs reinforcement.

What sets me apart is that my approach is grounded in neuroscience. With a Master's in Biology Education and a Bachelor's in Neuroscience from UC San Diego, I understand how the brain learns, retains, and performs under pressure. I don't teach students to memorize, I teach them how to think. Each student also receives a personalized online notebook that grows into a living study guide you can revisit anytime between sessions.

My goal isn't for you to need me forever. It's for you to build the confidence, strategies, and independence to succeed on your own.
