About Courtney
I am currently a student at the University of California, Los Angeles studying neuroscience. In high school, I earned an "Excellence in Mathematics" award from my mathematics department and took 7 years-worth of math (from Integrated Math 1 all the way to Calculus 2) within 4 years. At UCLA, I have taken 2 classes regarding mathematical modeling of dynamical, biological systems (with single- and multi-variable differential equations) that have reinforced my passion for mathematics. I have always loved learning mathematics and teaching it to my peers, and I look forward to being able to teach other students.

As a tutor, I like to emphasize the importance of practice in learning. A learning environment should be open-minded, and I make sure every student feels welcomed so that they are encouraged to ask questions. It is important not only to understand concepts in math, but to apply them to the real world. I teach content to students so that they have a basic understanding, then guide them through extensive practice problems so that they learn how to apply their newfound knowledge. Soon enough, they will be equipped with the ability to practice problems on their own without my guidance; that is the goal. I am a patient teacher, and will walk students through each step of the way until they solve each problem. The ultimate goal is to help build confidence in each student, so that they recognize their abilities and growth and choose to dive deeper. My lessons are for elementary, middle, and high school students; I can teach anywhere from elementary, basic arithmetic to calculus.
