About Isis

Do you find yourself freezing up every time you have to study for a test or write a paper and realize that although you’ve done it hundreds of times, you’ve forgotten how and have to reinvent the entire process?

Is your student running out of time to write their college application essays?

Do you watch your child hyperfocus on taking painstaking notes, copying from the textbook for hours, only to fail the test?

Are you exhausted by working so, so hard at things that others seem to handle as easily as breathing?

I want to help you with the overwhelm.

My name is Isis, and I teach people how to understand their ADHD, advocate for themselves, and learn not just the “how” skills but the “why”. ADHD isn’t a “can’t sit still” brain; it’s a “can’t figure out what is important” brain. It’s a “need just a little extra stimulation” brain, not “bored if it’s not fun” brain.

When you work with me as a college student, I’ll teach you how to adapt the academic skills you were taught in high school to actually work with the brain you have. I’ll help you determine what accommodations you should request from your school. I’ll show you how to understand process building, so you can have a reference when it’s time to start a project.

When you work with me as a child, I’ll pay attention to how your behavior mirrors your brain’s current needs. We’ll talk about what planning for success looks like. We’ll learn to think about what “most important” means. We’ll figure out what rewards feel the best for different kinds of accomplishments.

About the lesson

You can learn from me not just about studying for a particular subject like math, but about establishing study and planning processes that will carry you through your academic career with these tools for success.

I’ll listen to what you have to say about concerns, learning styles, confidence areas and experiences of struggle, and then I’ll work with you to develop a plan and build expertise around studying any subject to your particular strengths so that areas of weakness aren’t neglected.

This is a style of learning that is not taught in schools, because it is so deeply individuated, but understanding not just “how to study” but “how I study best” is a crucial skill to be laid as a foundation early for all future learning.
