• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  Answer: I developed an interest in numbers (math, statistics, accounting etc.) in my first year of college in 2012. My classmates would always come to me so I could explain to them how to do their homework, because I used to participate a lot in class. That's how I started with the tutoring session. When I started, I used to do it for free, just because it was something that I enjoyed doing. But then, I realized that, for people to value my work, I had to put a price on it. And I was right! I have tutored more than hundred students for the last 10 years and I am so glad to be able to offer my services on the Superprof page.

• Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I teach Math, Statistics, Accounting, Spanish, French and Microsoft Office. I can teach in English, Spanish, French and Creol. I like to discuss about Statistics' topics. This is my favorite subject. However, I can say that the subject I like a little less is Geometry because as an online tutor, sometimes it gets difficult to explain some specific concept to my students.

• Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  Yes! Guy C. Etienne, the director of College Catts Pressoir, is a teacher, an educator from Haiti that inspired me a lot. He taught me that perseverance, discipline and patience are the keys to success. Also, he taught me that success is not a destination, it is just a tool that gives us a push so we can reach more goals in our life.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I think that the required qualities to be a good tutor are: Patience- Kindness- Perseverance- Punctuality- Respect- To have a good knowledge of what we are going to teach- To be flexible in your method of teaching because a method might work in a student and fail in other students- And again patience!

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I remember when I was in school, math used to be my favorite subject. At the beginning of the year, my math teacher used to send my syllabus and all the homework that I would have during the year to my parents. I used to take note of the homework that I would have during the school year and take advantage of my vacations to do a bunch of homework, even on topics that my teacher would have not discussed in class yet. For example, in December vacations, I would do all the homework for the next 4 months (January-February-March-April) and when I used to go back to school in January, I used to take to the teacher a lot of filled notebook (where I had my homework done). My teachers would be just surprised about how excited and productive I was as a student.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  My biggest challenge is when I teach Geometry online because I don't really have the tools to draw some figures.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  Teaching is my main passion. I would consider myself as the happiest human being if I could teach for the rest of my life.

• What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

  This question is so related to question 4. I think that I am a superprof because I am patient, kind, perseverant, punctual, respectful, I have a good knowledge of what I teach to students, I am flexible and again, I am very patient!
