About Diana

I’m Diana, a native Russian speaker based in the UK with over 5 years’ experience teaching Russian and English to learners aged 7–50. I hold a BA (Hons) in Music and Modern Languages & Cultures and have worked as a private tutor, teaching intern, and university representative. My lessons combine clear grammar explanations with real‑life conversation, exam technique, and creative activities inspired by music and culture.

I specialise in: GCSE and A‑level Russian (speaking, writing, exam practice), University practice, TORFL preparation (A1–C2), Conversational Russian for adults (travel, work, family), Russian for children and teens (games, stories, songs).

Students typically see noticeable progress within 8–12 weeks: beginners can hold basic conversations, exam students improve grades and confidence, and adults gain practical speaking skills for real situations. I’m patient, organised, and focused on your goals, whether that’s passing an exam, speaking with family, or preparing for university or work.

Why choose me?
I'm a Native Russian speaker with 5+ years’ tutoring experience.
Specialist in GCSE/A‑level Russian and TORFL exam prep.
Creative and inspiring approach that keeps lessons lively.
Patient and supportive with children, teens, and adults.
Fast responses (within 24h) and flexible scheduling.

If you’re not sure about your level, book a free 30‑minute trial. We’ll assess your current Russian, discuss your goals, and plan the next steps together. Message me with your age, level, and aims, and I’ll suggest a personalised lesson plan.

Every lesson is tailored to your level, age, and goals, but most follow a clear, effective structure, lasting 55 to 60 minutes:

10 min: warm‑up and review of previous material
20 min: new grammar/vocabulary with short, clear explanations and examples
20 min: speaking practice (role‑plays, discussions, exam tasks, real‑life scenarios)
10 min: feedback, personalised tips, and homework to reinforce learning

I use games, stories, pictures, and songs to make Russian fun and memorable. For adults, we work on dialogues for travel/work, news/articles, pronunciation, and the language you actually need. For GCSE/A‑level students, I focus on past papers, speaking mocks, writing feedback, and exam strategy.

I adapt materials to your interests (music, films, travel, culture) so lessons feel relevant and engaging. You’ll always know what you’re working towards, with clear milestones and regular progress checks.

  • Why do you speak Russian fluently?

I’m a native Russian speaker originally from Russia, so the language has always been part of my life. Studying and teaching other languages has also helped me appreciate Russian from a learner’s perspective.
  • Who represents Russian culture to you?

I would definitely choose the most popular Russian writer - Alexander Pushkin. His poetry and stories are such a familiar part of Russian cultural life, and his writing shows how expressive and playful the language can be.
  • What word or tradition do you particularly like?

I love the word «ничего» (nichego). Literally, it means “nothing,” but depending on the situation and tone, it can also mean “it’s okay” or “not bad.” It’s a good example of why learning a language is about more than memorising vocabulary.
  • Why does speaking Russian matter to you?

Russian connects me to my origins and allows me to share a part of my culture with others. As a tutor, I especially enjoy seeing students reach the point where they can express their own thoughts, rather than just repeat phrases from a textbook.
  • What is the main difficulty, and what helps?

For many students, the cases and changing word endings are the biggest challenge. I find it helps to introduce them gradually, with clear patterns, useful examples and plenty of conversation practice. Making mistakes is part of the process!
  • Can you share an anecdote from school or language learning?

Teaching Russian has reminded me how much a small breakthrough can mean. When a student begins using a grammar pattern naturally in conversation after finding it confusing at first, it’s a wonderful moment and a reminder that confidence grows only through practice.
  • How has travel developed your knowledge of Russian?

Living between Russian and English-speaking environments has made me more aware of the expressions and cultural references that don’t translate literally. It helps me explain clearly what something means in Russian, and also when a native speaker would actually say it.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I combine native-speaker knowledge with 5+ years of tutoring experience and an understanding through learning French and Italian in university of what it feels like to learn another language. I tailor lessons to each student’s goals, explain grammar clearly and create a supportive space where students feel comfortable speaking Russian.
