About Zhitong

I am a native Mandarin speaker originally from China, currently completing a Master of Biotechnology degree at the University of Melbourne. My academic background spans both life sciences and computational research, which has shaped the way I think and communicate — clearly, logically, and with attention to detail.
I am passionate about languages and believe that learning Mandarin should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I bring patience, structure, and genuine enthusiasm to every lesson, and I take pride in helping students build real confidence in speaking, reading, and writing Chinese.
Having lived and studied in both China and Australia, I understand the challenges that come with learning a new language and culture. This gives me a unique perspective as a tutor — I know how to bridge the gap between the two languages in a way that makes sense to learners at every level.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual goals and learning pace. For young beginners, I focus on building a strong foundation in pinyin, tones, and basic characters through games, visuals, and repetition to keep things engaging. For older students and adults, I emphasize practical communication, grammar patterns, and building confidence in real-life conversation.
Each lesson is typically 60 minutes. I begin with a short review of previous material, introduce new content, and finish with practice exercises or conversation. Progress is tracked each session so students and parents always know where they stand.
I hold a university degree in science and am a native Mandarin speaker with a structured, analytical approach to teaching. I am patient, encouraging, and experienced working with learners of different ages and backgrounds.
My lessons are suitable for: young children starting from scratch, primary and secondary school students, adults learning for travel or work, and VCE/HSC Chinese candidates looking to improve their results.
