About Kai
I'm a second-year Computer Science student at Edinburgh Napier University, and Japanese is something I've grown up with, so when I teach it, I'm not just going off textbooks. I understand how the language actually sounds and feels in real life, which I think makes a big difference.
I really enjoy helping people learn, and I try to keep lessons relaxed and pressure-free. Everyone learns differently, so I always adapt to what works best for you, whether you're just starting out or working towards your JLPT exam.
My CS background has also made me pretty good at explaining tricky concepts in a way that actually makes sense, so you won't be left confused. I take my sessions seriously and always come prepared, but above all I want you to leave each lesson feeling like you've made genuine progress.

I'm a bilingual Japanese-English Computer Science student at Edinburgh Napier University, and I offer Japanese language lessons tailored to your goals, whether that's passing JLPT N5/N4, holding a conversation confidently, or preparing for travel or work in Japan.
My approach is practical and learner-focused. Rather than drilling grammar rules in isolation, I teach language in context, using real conversations, everyday scenarios, and material that's actually interesting to you (whether that's anime, business Japanese, or travel phrases). I adapt every session to your pace and learning style.
Typical lesson structure (60 minutes): 10 min: review and warm-up from last session 35 min: new material with guided practice 15 min: free conversation or Q&A
Lessons are available online via video call or in person, whichever works best for you.
Who this is for: Complete beginners through to intermediate learners (JLPT N3 level). All ages welcome, adults and university students particularly suited.
